Inspired living in a converted Gastown loft

Posted by: naomi @ 12:03 am in interiors, people

Located at 55 East Cordova in the heart of Gastown in Vancouver, Koret Lofts is a heritage building featuring units with high ceilings, brick walls and a European flare to the interior furnishings. Built in 2006, this building contains 118 suites spanning 6 floors. The last time we stopped by we profiled Sally, her cat and a few of her favorite vintage pieces. The apartment she lives in is just as lovely and it would be criminal not to share the photos.

When you first enter the apartment, you’re greeted by a floor to ceiling collage of photos taken by her grandfather – a great personal touch. The hardwood floors are a lovely alternative over the traditional treated concrete that comes standard in the other units. The thing I love most about this building is the brick, and there is no shortage of it here. Is love at first sight possible?

One of the great things about loft living is how everything is so open. You can stand in one corner and look straight through from the living room to the kitchen to the dining area. The chandelier hanging above the dining table is definitely a focal point in the room (I believe she picked it up at The Cross Decor & Design in Yaletown).

I love looking at photos of lofts and converted living spaces. What are some of your favorites?

Hi Megan.. wait until you see some of the other units in this building. Really gorgeous. I love the multicolored wood floor too. This unit has been remodeled from the stock option – the original is a treated cement floor. Also very cool against the brick walls.

We live in a “soft loft” in the Over-theRhine neighborhood just north of downtown Cincinnati. Our building is a converted beer hall, so it was originally used for hosting dances and, of course, beer-drinking. We have a big open space and then a couple of small rooms [one is a bedroom and the other a guest room/studio], plus three areas in the upstairs loft. So, our combines aspects of open-plan living and apartment-dwelling:

So, I have to say that our place is one my favorite lofts! If I have my way, we’re never leaving, although your own place is freaking sweet! Seriously, this is gorgeous. Kudos!

Hiya – that’s gorgeous! This isn’t actually our loft – it’s a friend of mine. We also did a separate post about her here: http://www.tobeinspired.com/2009/08/a-woman-a-cat-and-her-jewelry-vintage-of-course/
