Bon Voyage – I <3 vintage suitcases

Posted by: naomi @ 12:03 am in thrifting, travel

I have a thing for old suitcases. Ever since I discovered such a thing existed I’ve been buying and selling any cool looking ones that I might happen to come across. If I could, I would keep them all except I have no room. I’ve cut my collection down to the lovely 3 shapes that you see here: round, square and rectangular.

They just don’t make suitcases like this anymore. The detailing and the intricate stitching are amazing – it makes me want to hop on the next departing cruise ship and sail away.

I have actually used all of these before in travel – not very practical as they are fairly heavy and difficult to carry (whoever invented rollers on suitcases was a genius).

Bon Voyage!

Love your blog and your style. Your photos are fantastic as well. What sort of camera are you using? What are you using to get that retro look that you have going on some of your photos? Very cool! I am inspired and will have to get a flea market fix this weekend.

Hi Catherine :) Glad you like the photos! Naomi and I use two cameras on occasion, a Canon 5D (which takes the majority of the photos) or a Nikon D200. We get the retro look through color toning in Adobe Lightroom :) Good luck at the flea market! :D

my word! we are birds of a feather. I have a room full of vintage suitcases, mostly the square ones you have pictured above, in every color. I have a stack of about 12 ranging in size from about 2.5 feet to 10 inches in width.
I need to draw on some and get them sold and out of my room. Its getting kind of ridiculous.

love suitcases like these too. Any tips on where to score some good quality ones at a good price around town?

Hmmm, they’re lots of antique shops up and down Main street. I’ve also seen many big suit cases in antique shops down in the states. They seem to go for cheaper as well!
