Tune Tuesdays: Big Butter and Egg Man

Posted by: ryan @ 1:18 pm in blog news, records & music

Suddenly, Tuesday’s just got better.

We’re introducing a new feature on the blog called Tune Tuesdays. Every Tuesday we’ll put up a random 78RPM record to share. I’ve finally finished building my 78 record player system and have been picking random ones to sample and record. Hopefully there will be something for everyone. This week’s tune comes from Harriet’s collection of 78’s I bought back in the summer titled “Big Butter and Egg Man” written by Percy Venable in 1926.

According to Wikipedia, “Big Butter and Egg Man” is slang for a big spender or a traveling businessman in the habit of spending large amounts of money in nightclubs. The song is considered a Jazz standard and is played by many Dixieland style bands.

This song was written by Percy for Louis Armstrong, but the particular copy I have doesn’t feature the great legend.

Enjoy!

That was a whole lot of toe tapping goodness! Definitely turned around my ‘just wanna walk out of work and go back to bed’ morning when enjoyed with a cup of green tea and some Peppermint bark. :)

Thanks!
