Vintage Dutch Locomotief city bike

Posted by: naomi @ 12:31 am in moving things, vintage finds

I am so excited to blog about this. On Saturday we went down to Seattle to do some Christmas shopping and look at a bike. I know it’s the winter, but it’s also the best time to buy bikes because people either sell them or store them until next year. After scouring Craigslist for a vintage Dutch bike, Ryan came across this one – it’s a Locomotief from the 1960s and ain’t she a looker!

We drove down to Seattle to pick it up (I also picked up a snowboard from Craigslist) and then headed to Gas Works Park, which contains the rusting ruins of an old gas plant so I could take the bike for a spin.

There are a few things that need to be replaced on the bike and I want to check out the brakes before I really go far distances in it. In the meantime, it’s going into storage until the Spring.

Miss anita.. We are trying to decide which record to put up first. Listened to a bunch of them yesterday and I think we have narrowed it down.

I wish it was spring already so I could ride the bike (after putting on new brakes of course).

I bet it was so much fun on that vintage bike. I love those old bikes all of the neat chrome just like the old cars they had so much character and style now they all look alike.

What an absolute score! I love my Dutch bike (though it’s unfortunately not vintage).

@Debra – It’s awesome.. I love it. But it is a bit creaky and the brakes are suspect so I’ll have to get it checked out before really giving her a spin this spring.

@Jessica – What kind of Dutch bike do you have? Is it a jorg and olif?

Glad you like the bike :) and that’s not fair! Dutch bikes are really hard to find here and cost a fortune!

In Holland this would be just an ordinairy bicycle, but we are spoiled with all those bicycles (Holland has more bicycles than it has inhabitans) Look at the Locomotief bikes on this website of Mr. Herbert Kuner, there are real beauties between them !

Nice that you are so happy with your bike, at least it is good quality, better than most modern bikes !

greetings from Holland,
Andre

Andre – I think people just like to get things that aren’t readily available. Maybe you will find our canadian bikes a cool thing there ;)
