Last weekend we went for a sunny bike ride to Steveston, a historic salmon canning town located in Richmond, BC.

New summer time fixup – Mole Richardson lightPosted by: ryan @ 7:06 pm in diy refinishing, vintage finds |
The dreary weather we’ve been getting these past few weeks has been preventing us from doing any restoration on some of the outstanding projects on our plates. Not to be deterred, I pulled out something I bought last fall, a vintage Mole Richardson Fresnel light during one of the rare clear days last week.

A trip to Salt Spring IslandPosted by: ryan @ 12:04 am in letterpress, travel |
Last weekend we took a ferry over to see Peter Haase and Mona Fertig of Mother Tongue Publishing. Peter was taught letterpress printing by Jim Rimmer and I wanted to film some of his shared stories on camera.

Two quirky camera lensesPosted by: ryan @ 10:47 am in cameras & lenses, vintage finds |
It’s been a while since I’ve written a post about cameras, so today I thought I’d post about a few lenses I’ll be taking with me on a short trip. I’ll be packing my 5D and two quirky lenses – the Loreo 35mm F5.6 lens and the Jupiter 9 85mm F2.0 lens.

CCM bike progress updatePosted by: ryan @ 12:05 am in diy refinishing, moving things |
Many months have passed and I’ve finally put most of the bike back together. One thing I haven’t the chance to do is clean and install the chain guard and fenders. There’s lots of work still yet to be done!

A top tune in 1945 played by Harry James and sung by Kitty Kallen, “Waitin’ for the train to come in” is this weeks Tune Tuesday. Enjoy!

The bike in peicesPosted by: ryan @ 11:49 pm in diy refinishing, moving things |
I finally got a chance to pull the old CCM Rambler apart. After wiping it down, it’s in better shape then I first thought. The first thing that I did was pull the wheels off to see what I could salvage. Continue reading »

Hauling 2000 78rpm records back homePosted by: ryan @ 12:46 am in records & music, vintage finds |
Have you ever come across a moment in life where you’ve asked yourself, “What am I getting myself into?” One of those moments for me was last fall when I hauled back home over 1000lbs of 78rpm records.

Tune Tuesday: Disperse with the windPosted by: ryan @ 11:39 am in records & music, vintage finds |
Lately, we’ve been playing a lot of American Jazz and Big Band. I thought we’d change it up today and put on this old opera record from Russia.

1940’s CCM Rambler: My new summer bikePosted by: ryan @ 8:22 pm in moving things, vintage finds |
A few weeks ago I mentioned a bike in my post about vintage theater seats. Well, here is that bike. After tracing the serial number, I discovered that it is a 1941 CCM Rambler and is similar to the one currently on display in the Canadian Science & Technology Museum in Ottawa. It needs some work, but I’m looking forward to getting it rolling this summer.
