Last Sunday I was asked to be interviewed by CBC Radio’s North By Northwest show hosted by Sheryl McKay to talk about Jim Rimmer. Needless to say, I was extremely honored and was happy to stop by.

A tribute to Jim RimmerPosted by: ryan @ 9:12 pm in blog news, people |
Who is Jim Rimmer? Jim Rimmer was a typographer, letterpress printer and my best friend. I met him for the first time in Spring of 2004 when I was seeking some advice on letterpress printing techniques. That fall I arrived at his home in New Westminster, BC. I remember walking down the gravel path to the side of his house and peering into a very dusty window. In the back of his dimly lit shop, I could scarcely make out the silhouette of a person working on a large iron machine. Excitedly, I knocked on the glass pane door where I was warmly greeted and invited in.

New feature: Blog post Google MapsPosted by: naomi @ 11:04 pm in blog news, travel |
I’m super excited to announce that we have a new feature – blog post Google Maps. We’ve gone through all of our old posts and pinned every location we talk about, whether it be an antique store or a restaurant and everything in-between – we’ve listed it.

Tune Tuesdays: Big Butter and Egg ManPosted by: ryan @ 1:18 pm in blog news, records & music |
Suddenly, Tuesday’s just got better.
We’re introducing a new feature on the blog called Tune Tuesdays. Every Tuesday we’ll put up a random 78RPM record to share. I’ve finally finished building my 78 record player system and have been picking random ones to sample and record. Hopefully there will be something for everyone. This week’s tune comes from Harriet’s collection of 78’s I bought back in the summer titled “Big Butter and Egg Man” written by Percy Venable in 1926.

I’m back from Asia! Landed last night and I’m extremely jet lagged but I thought I would make a short post to update with some photos from the trip.

Blog news and other miscellanyPosted by: naomi @ 2:02 am in blog news, travel |
Here at the blog, we always love getting feedback and emails from our readers on how to improve the site. Dave Burrows wrote into us the other day and suggested that we use the “My Maps” feature of Google Maps to plot out all the antique shops we’ve written about for easy access for those who want to visit. Great idea Dave – it’s something we will definitely implement before the end of the year, so watch for it.

Spending the weekend in OregonPosted by: naomi @ 11:45 pm in blog news |
Hi everyone! We’re spending the weekend in Oregon: shopping in Portland, Maryhill Museum of Art, Pearl District and driving up the Oregon coast via Cannon Beach and of course, antiquing our butts off. Have a fun and fantastic weekend!

The First PostPosted by: naomi @ 8:57 pm in blog news |
Every blog has a beginning and this is ours. We are two people who share a passion for all things old and the inspirations you can draw out of them. As this blog grows, we hope to share and interact with like minded people.
Some words to describe the topics we’ll write about:
- Letterpress printing – and the trials and tribulations of putting together your own letterpress shop
- Old, old, very old (did I say old?) cameras and lenses, collecting them, fixing them up and sometimes using them
- DIY refinishing – ever find that awesome (something) at a garage sale/flea market/thrift store? Me too!!
- Vintage home decor and interior design – I swear I was an interior designer in another life, or something like that. The folder of home-living eyecandy sitting on my computer’s hard drive is proof.
That’s enough of an intro for now – hope you’ll stop by often and interact with us.
