Last weekend we went for a sunny bike ride to Steveston, a historic salmon canning town located in Richmond, BC.

A trip to Salt Spring IslandPosted by: ryan @ 12:04 am in letterpress, travel |
Last weekend we took a ferry over to see Peter Haase and Mona Fertig of Mother Tongue Publishing. Peter was taught letterpress printing by Jim Rimmer and I wanted to film some of his shared stories on camera.

New feature: Blog post Google MapsPosted by: naomi @ 11:04 pm in blog news, travel |
I’m super excited to announce that we have a new feature – blog post Google Maps. We’ve gone through all of our old posts and pinned every location we talk about, whether it be an antique store or a restaurant and everything in-between – we’ve listed it.

Wandering from Nanaimo to Victoria Part 1Posted by: ryan @ 4:10 pm in thrifting, travel |
About a month ago we wanted to go for a quick weekend getaway, so we decided to take a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo, which is on Vancouver Island. We would then make our way to Victoria (roughly a 2 hour drive) and then ferry back home to Vancouver. It had been awhile since I was on the Island so I was itching to do some exploring.

Back from Asia – here’s a recapPosted by: naomi @ 6:57 pm in blog news, travel |
I’m back from Asia! Landed last night and I’m extremely jet lagged but I thought I would make a short post to update with some photos from the trip.

Ni hao (Hello) from Asia!Posted by: ryan @ 7:46 pm in miscellaneous, travel |
(I’ll be posting on behalf of Naomi today!) It’s been a week since I left rainy Vancouver with 3 of my girlfriends for Asia and it seems like I brought the rain with me. The first stop was Shanghai and the city didn’t really feel like I was in Asia – probably because of the high number of expats we encountered and the very modern/expensive feel of the city.

Las Vegas Toy Camera snapsPosted by: ryan @ 12:13 am in cameras & lenses, travel |
I was in Las Vegas for four days this past weekend. Before I left, the back panel on my Canon 5D went completely dead on me. While it was getting fixed, I had no other means of taking photos other than with my iPhone. It wasn’t ideal but I made do with what I had. Here are a few of those photos using Takayuki Fukatsu’s Toy Camera App.

Blog news and other miscellanyPosted by: naomi @ 2:02 am in blog news, travel |
Here at the blog, we always love getting feedback and emails from our readers on how to improve the site. Dave Burrows wrote into us the other day and suggested that we use the “My Maps” feature of Google Maps to plot out all the antique shops we’ve written about for easy access for those who want to visit. Great idea Dave – it’s something we will definitely implement before the end of the year, so watch for it.

Bon Voyage – I <3 vintage suitcasesPosted by: naomi @ 12:03 am in thrifting, travel |
I have a thing for old suitcases. Ever since I discovered such a thing existed I’ve been buying and selling any cool looking ones that I might happen to come across. If I could, I would keep them all except I have no room. I’ve cut my collection down to the lovely 3 shapes that you see here: round, square and rectangular.

A Friday Night on Vancouver’s Granville StreetPosted by: ryan @ 12:44 am in events, travel |
Last week a friend of mine from Seattle came up to Vancouver for the weekend. We decided to visit a few of Vancouver’s classic attractions – The Commodore Bowling Lanes and the Movieland Arcade located in the heart of Granville Street.

Bartha Silva’s World Travelling SuitcasePosted by: ryan @ 11:45 am in travel, vintage finds |
Several months ago, a close friend of mine came across this very old suitcase while on an antiquing adventure around the Washington state area. It wasn’t until she brought it home that she noticed a cue card inside that came with it.
The suitcase together with Ms Bertha Silva traveled by boat in 1929-1930 through Mexico, Argentina, Chili, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Colombia, Panama and Bolivia.

Heaven in a House – Madison Park AntiquesPosted by: naomi @ 12:35 am in featured shops, travel |
Are you sick of all the Portland posts yet? Well here’s one more.
Madison Park Antiques is a MUST VISIT. This store is a gorgeous, well edited collection of antiques, vintage home decor and various other ephemera. I noticed the small, discreet sign outside while walking around an area of Portland (I forget the name) filled with antique and vintage stores. Out of all of the shops on the block, this one definitely stood out – mainly because it was in a beautiful residential house rather than a store front.

The World’s Largest Bookstore – Powell’s BooksPosted by: ryan @ 12:39 am in books, travel |
For anyone who is a fan of books, Powell’s Books in Portland’s Pearl District is a must see . It’s so large it occupies one city block. On our recent trip to Portland we made a stop and left with a ton of books.
