Hauling 2000 78rpm records back home

Posted by: ryan @ 12:46 am in records & music, vintage finds

Have you ever come across a moment in life where you’ve asked yourself, “What am I getting myself into?”  One of those moments for me was last fall when I hauled back home over 1000lbs of 78rpm records.

Posted by: naomi @ 1:07 pm in reviews, vintage finds

What is the Museum of Vancouver? The Museum of Vancouver creates Vancouver-focused exhibitions and programs which encourage dynamic conversations about what was, is and can be Vancouver – basically it’s an awesome walk down memory lane with realistic displays of what life was like during different decades over the past 100 years.

Tune Tuesdays: Big Butter and Egg Man

Posted by: ryan @ 1:18 pm in blog news, records & music

Suddenly, Tuesday’s just got better.

We’re introducing a new feature on the blog called Tune Tuesdays. Every Tuesday we’ll put up a random 78RPM record to share. I’ve finally finished building my 78 record player system and have been picking random ones to sample and record. Hopefully there will be something for everyone. This week’s tune comes from Harriet’s collection of 78’s I bought back in the summer titled “Big Butter and Egg Man” written by Percy Venable in 1926.

Antique hunting in Langley BC

Posted by: ryan @ 11:11 am in featured shops, vintage finds

A month ago when the sun was still out in Vancouver, we decided to stop by Langley, the birthplace of British Columbia. The township is located near the historic Fort Langley, a fur trading post used during the 1800s by the Hudsons Bay Company.

The Cloverdale Fleamarket

Posted by: ryan @ 11:48 pm in thrifting, vintage finds

This past Sunday Naomi and I went to the Cloverdale Flea Market to see what vintage finds awaited us. It’s one of our favorite places to browse for knick knacks on a Sunday in Vancouver. If the weather is good, the crowds will be large and the vendors plentiful.

Posted by: ryan @ 11:45 am in travel, vintage finds

Several months ago, a close friend of mine came across this very old suitcase while on an antiquing adventure around the Washington state area. It wasn’t until she brought it home that she noticed a cue card inside that came with it.

The suitcase together with Ms Bertha Silva traveled by boat in 1929-1930 through Mexico, Argentina, Chili, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Colombia, Panama and Bolivia.

1922 Singer Sewhandy Model 20-10

Posted by: ryan @ 12:26 am in thrifting, vintage finds

A good friend mine received a tiny sewing machine as a gift. It was the Singer Sewhandy and it came with the box, manual, needles and a spool of ribbon. I couldn’t find much information about this machine online, but I did come across this:

“…Model 20 small sewing machines were marketed solely as real sewing machines for girls and were often given away to help imprint the Singer name in the mind of the future sewing machine buyers or young seamstresses of tomorrow.”

Fabulous Finds: Vintage headbands by LIASON

Posted by: naomi @ 7:39 pm in clothing & accessories, featured shops

I love browsing the shops on Etsy not only for unique prints and knick knacks for my house, but for the amazing designers who put out great one-of-a-kind jewelry and accessories. LIASON is no exception. I first came across this store, run by a talented designer named Katherine, during my hunt for a feathered headband to accessorize my outfit for an upcoming 1920’s flapper party.
