There’s a local company called 21c Promotions that puts on antique fairs/flea markets and retro design events once a month at rotating locations. Last month’s event was an antique fair at the Croatian Cultural Centre on Commercial Drive.

Hauling 2000 78rpm records back homePosted by: ryan @ 12:46 am in records & music, vintage finds |
Have you ever come across a moment in life where you’ve asked yourself, “What am I getting myself into?” One of those moments for me was last fall when I hauled back home over 1000lbs of 78rpm records.

1940’s CCM Rambler: My new summer bikePosted by: ryan @ 8:22 pm in moving things, vintage finds |
A few weeks ago I mentioned a bike in my post about vintage theater seats. Well, here is that bike. After tracing the serial number, I discovered that it is a 1941 CCM Rambler and is similar to the one currently on display in the Canadian Science & Technology Museum in Ottawa. It needs some work, but I’m looking forward to getting it rolling this summer.

Some great prints at IkeaPosted by: naomi @ 12:33 am in featured shops, home decor |
I was at Ikea the other day just browsing around when I came across this print. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of Ikea prints but for some reason this one just really stuck out to me and I’ve never seen anything like it at Ikea so I had to have it. Total cost was $59.99 including the frame.

Wandering from Nanaimo to Victoria Part 1Posted by: ryan @ 4:10 pm in thrifting, travel |
About a month ago we wanted to go for a quick weekend getaway, so we decided to take a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo, which is on Vancouver Island. We would then make our way to Victoria (roughly a 2 hour drive) and then ferry back home to Vancouver. It had been awhile since I was on the Island so I was itching to do some exploring.

Antique hunting in Langley BCPosted by: ryan @ 11:11 am in featured shops, vintage finds |
A month ago when the sun was still out in Vancouver, we decided to stop by Langley, the birthplace of British Columbia. The township is located near the historic Fort Langley, a fur trading post used during the 1800s by the Hudsons Bay Company.

Ni hao (Hello) from Asia!Posted by: ryan @ 7:46 pm in miscellaneous, travel |
(I’ll be posting on behalf of Naomi today!) It’s been a week since I left rainy Vancouver with 3 of my girlfriends for Asia and it seems like I brought the rain with me. The first stop was Shanghai and the city didn’t really feel like I was in Asia – probably because of the high number of expats we encountered and the very modern/expensive feel of the city.

Harriet’s Box of 78RPM recordsPosted by: ryan @ 9:24 am in records & music, vintage finds |
I was born in the 80’s so I never really had the chance to listen to records growing up. By the time I developed my diverse taste in music, CDs were all the rage and my father had put most of his vinyl collection away. Over the years, I’ve become more of an audiophile and decided to begin listening to vinyl records. I purchased my first turntable (a Technics SL1200 MK2) and was floored by the sound. From that point on, I was completely hooked and began to buy lots of new LPs from my favorite artists. After a month or so, I began searching for vinyl on Craigslist and came across an ad for over a hundred old 78rpm LPs for a mere $20.
TWENTY DOLLARS.
At 20 cents a record I couldnt go wrong and immediately called the seller.

Little did we know but this little store turned out to be an 18,000 square foot antique mall filled to the brim with all sorts antiques and vintage paraphernalia!

New Westminster’s Front StreetPosted by: ryan @ 12:11 am in featured shops, thrifting |
Last weekend we decided to venture out to New Westminster, a city about 25 minutes outside of Vancouver. One street we wanted to visit in particular is home to Antiques Alley – Front Street. Back in the late 1800s, it started as a market and dockside street which was home to one of the earliest established Chinatowns in Canada. Many films have been shot here because the area feels like you’re in the backstreets of New York. Today, it’s home to some of the best antique stores this city has to offer. Continue reading »

The Cloverdale FleamarketPosted by: ryan @ 11:48 pm in thrifting, vintage finds |
This past Sunday Naomi and I went to the Cloverdale Flea Market to see what vintage finds awaited us. It’s one of our favorite places to browse for knick knacks on a Sunday in Vancouver. If the weather is good, the crowds will be large and the vendors plentiful.

Vintage for your home and youPosted by: naomi @ 12:28 am in featured shops, home decor |
I love scouring Etsy for new stores offering great vintage wares and theblogbloglog is no exception. Shop owner Libby Alexander’s current obsessions are lamps, chairs and silver spoons and describes her style as: Mid-century modern with a bit of LOL and Rustic Regency.

Bartha Silva’s World Travelling SuitcasePosted by: ryan @ 11:45 am in travel, vintage finds |
Several months ago, a close friend of mine came across this very old suitcase while on an antiquing adventure around the Washington state area. It wasn’t until she brought it home that she noticed a cue card inside that came with it.
The suitcase together with Ms Bertha Silva traveled by boat in 1929-1930 through Mexico, Argentina, Chili, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Colombia, Panama and Bolivia.
